The volunteers conducted a Flash Mob. Around 1PM, the volunteers, all clad in Yellow, danced on 3 songs, while the crowd appreciated them. The event was full of joy, energy and a lot of fun. Volunteers also conducted some games where the participants had to segregate M&Ms and Gems according to different colour groups. Many other such exciting games were organized and winners were given Diyas(Earthen Lamp) as a gift. It was a successful event; people from the age group from about 17 years to approximately 30 years or so were the most active ones in the activities and helped the fund-raising event to be a success. Crowd-funding is an effective way to create a broad base of new donors, as well as to spread awareness

To our intern Jaira... Even after 73 years of Independence, there are a lot of parts of the country in which children are forced into child marriages. 1 in every 5 girls in India gets married before 18 years of age that makes it 12 million in total.  Even after these numbers, we often choose to be quiet on this issue. Recently one of our interns raised her voice against this social evil. In October 2019, in Pushkar, Rajasthan, six minor girls were getting forced into child marriage by their parents. Our intern Jaira Sona Chin, after hearing this news was disturbed and the way she handled this case is more than appreciable. Jaira works with a few local NGOs and has been visiting Rajasthan for several years. She has also been sponsoring child education for nearly 40 years in Pushkar. After discovering the scenario, she turned up to Child rights and you (CRY) and told us the entire scenario. We contacted the local NGO the Women's Public Rights Committee who repo

PERIOD: Let's Begin The Sentence.

Menstruation, the flow which ensures the flow of life, is one the topic that most are hesitant to talk about. The taboo has existed since forever and has continued to exist in most parts of the society even now. The creation of a menstrual taboo took place independently and repeatedly across different societies and geographies. Analogies are used to serve the purpose by giving us words to talk about things that are considered culturally wrong, which happens in this case as well. This narrative crafted has had severe impacts on the mindset of men and overall well-being of women. The impact of typical menstrual taboos is clear: they can lead to significant challenges in menstrual management, adverse reproductive health outcomes, social ostracism, diseases, and even death. This creates the dire need to bring a change in the thought process.  So, on behalf of CRY-Child Rights and You, campus volunteers from Miranda House College went to one of  our projects in Jahangirpuri on

Dental Health Camp- Healthy Habits for Happy Smiles

Image
“A child’s smile is like rainbows and sunshine, packaged with a ribbon on top.” To make the smiles of our little ones eternal, we, at CRY, organized a series of dental health camps kickstarting from our PAG at SWATI. The day began with great enthusiasm, at Swati, as the children slowly gathered in the projects's compound to satisfy their curiosity and witness the event unfold. The event started with a talk on dental hygiene by Priyanka (a paediatric dental health expert), who joined hands with CRY to spearhead the campaign, teaching children about hygienic dental practices, particularly emphasizing on teeth and gum illnesses and measures to prevent them. This was followed by something that caught everybody’s interest- A free Dental Screening! Patient Cards were handed out to all the children present there, providing a summary of the oral health of the child and areas of improvement. The event was a hit with the children and their parents as around 72 c

Health Is The Most Important Gift That You Can Give To Yourself- Health Camp at RK Puram

Image
It is said that nothing is more important than health for the quality of life. A health awareness program conducted by CRY volunteers on the issues pertaining to public health, sanitation, first aid, balanced dietary plans and nutrition was organized at the 4-day health camp at the RK Puram PAG starting from 28 th of January and kicking off the new year on a high note. Although the program focused on health-related issues, it also entailed the growing concerns of heart attacks, its symptoms, different diseases & their prevention, dental health and building physical immunity by making a healthy dietary program for adolescents. This program was different from previously organized camps as this time the CRY volunteer team took up the case of public health in general. With an attendance of 71 children and their guardians, the volunteers made everyone understand that good health is not attained just by availing good health services, but much of it depends on the people

A Bonfire That Ignited The Spirit of Love and Happiness- Lohri Celebrations at SWATI PAG

Image
Amidst the chilling winds and low temperatures, a team of committed volunteers from CRY organized Lohri celebrations for the children at SWATI, a CRY supported project. The celebration, that is the remembrance of the Sun deity, was an evening full of enjoyment and activities and some really appetizing food, that was witnessed by more than a hundred children and their parents. The evening commenced with a bonfire around which everyone sat and played antakshari (sing along), imbibing the spirit of Lohri. This vibe was further energized by a special dance performance by the children, that was choreographed by a young and passionate volunteer, Muskan, with whom all the children love to dance. The performance was so full of energy and so well-choreographed that it left the audience in awe! The awesomeness of the evening did not end there; the bhaiyas and the didis at SWATI had a special dance prepared for the children, which was a surprise to all present, and by the e

Christmas Came Early For Our Children At Saksham And Pahal

Image
Christmas bells jingled early in Pahal and Saksham, CRY supported projects, when the CRY volunteers organised Christmas festivities on the 23 rd of December, to be celebrated with children from surrounding areas. The children came from homes where positivity was scarce, and with inhibitions given their economic background. But the children looked forward to the celebrations with gleaming eyes, expecting a day filled with fun and frolic. CRY not only ensured fun but packed important lessons in between layers of frivolity. CRY volunteers brought Christmas cheer to the children with which came important social messages that were delivered by the children and volunteers alike. The event kicked-off around 10 A.M. in the morning and continued for three jolly hours. The day commenced with a volunteer dressed as Santa Claus who gave an introductory speech which was followed by a play enacted by the children, on the history behind Christmas Day celebrations. To turn on the

A Perfect Close To A Perfect Year- Christmas and Annual Day Celebrations at Dwarka PAG

Image
The day when every single person felt no less than a child; something like this happened on 25 th December, 2018 at the CRY Dwarka PAG. It was a magical event that began with twofold happiness, Christmas Day and Annual Day celebrations. It was for the first time this year that an event brought both, the parents and the children together, and where love and respect felt intertwined and more so our volunteers felt great experiencing these moments of happiness. Starting with the lavish decoration, the mesmerizing performances, the delicious food and many fun activities, this year’s Christmas and Annual Day celebrations brought an exciting end to this amazing year.   The plan was to organize the event for approximately 50 children but the enthusiasm among the children for this day led to a turnout of over 70, which really got all the volunteers super excited for what was to come. The ‘Baarat Ghar’ was selected as the venue, that was decorated so beautifully
