“Oh! I feel so bad for them. Bechaare!” That, precisely, used to be my reaction whenever I used to see the underprivileged children. CRY is one foundation that made me realise that there could be more to this reaction- Action! CRY stirred my soul by helping me to take all its activities to next level. I, along with the volunteers, started the first of its kind- Community Intervention, here in Gurugram. What used to be limited to just Government Schools has now moved to intervening directly in the community. The first step in this direction was recognising the community that needed our help the most. After this, we took permission from the counsellor under whose authority the community fell, to proceed. The World Environment Day was celebrated around the theme of Connecting People to Nature at the edifice of United Nations on 5th June 2017. We at CRY also participated to the cause and endeavored  a strong message to bring about a change and exhibit our love for nature. Through the gracious efforts of our volunteers Charvi, Anita and Mehak at the Gurugram PAG, the children learnt the necessity of conserving the environment by indulging in creative activities of sapling plantation and pot decoration across a two day event. It is said that any type of consciousness raising activity has merits. The World Environment Day celebration was no different. Over the years, CRY has worked intensively with children and generated smiles across millions of young faces. However, the efforts have not been limited to children as CRY recognizes the strength behind every child, the mother. This Mother’s day CRY decided to appreciate the efforts of every mother by helping the children create a token of gratitude for them. Volunteers Charvi Gupta and Anita Gupta planned a two day activity over 13 th and 14 th May at the Government Model School in Gurgaon, where each child was asked to create something special for their mother. The activity was divided into two parts. The first day the children were asked to write a letter to their mothers keeping in mind the memory they most cherished with them. Having conducted a number of programs/ events as the Child Rights Leader (CRL) for Jesus and Mary college, 2016-2017, Devika Chopra’s journey is a tale of dedication and commitment towards bringing a change in the lives of underprivileged children. As the CRL for Child Rights and You (CRY), Devika undertook a wide array of events with a simple desire of adding a little something to the lives of those who were a part of the programme.
