CRY Reaches out to Mothers on Mother's Day
Over the years, CRY has worked intensively with
children and generated smiles across millions of young faces. However, the
efforts have not been limited to children as CRY recognizes the strength behind
every child, the mother.
This Mother’s day CRY decided to appreciate the
efforts of every mother by helping the children create a token of gratitude for
them. Volunteers Charvi Gupta and Anita Gupta planned a two day activity over
13th and 14th May at the Government Model School in
Gurgaon, where each child was asked to create something special for their
mother.
The activity was divided into two parts. The
first day the children were asked to write a letter to their mothers keeping in
mind the memory they most cherished with them. The volunteers helped the kids
to brainstorm through the different memories and assisted them to come up with
the intricate and personal details that only showed how deeply the children
were attached to their mothers. As most of the mothers are home workers, this
letter would come as a welcome show of warmth and affection that the mothers
deserve.
The final day of the activity involved the
volunteers engaging with the children on a personal level and helping them make
a greeting card for the occasion of Mother’s Day. The children came up with
innovative designs and drawings as they put their complete heart in the
activity. Later, they were also taught how to make their own envelopes for the
cards.
The most significant aspect of this activity
was when the children were asked to personally hand the letters and the cards
to their mothers and not post them. This decision is important on multiple
levels. To begin with, the children learnt how to express their feelings
towards their mothers. It is an aspect that most of us tend to forget, but
expressing our feelings to our parents can be one of the hardest yet the most
rewarding experience. Secondly, from the mother’s perspective, it is this
simple action which would separate a normal day from a special one. Lastly,
engaging in such an activity at a young age, to recall happy memories, and to
personally express one’s feelings is a path towards becoming a better human
being.
CRY has constantly made an effort to ensure
that every child is protected from every form of danger that exists by enabling
one to realize one’s actual potential. This Mother’s Day CRY was successful in helping
the children engage with their feelings, expressing them, and understanding the
significance and a contribution of a mother in everyone’s lives.
