CRY Volunteers North

Kreeanne Rabadi, a senior CRY colleague from Mumbai  participated in TED Talk-Youth @Dais.  In her talk she reflects on the inspiring work that Late Rippan Kapur  has put into building CRY. She also talks extensively about how youth Plays a significant role in bringing about a social change. She seamlessly relates it to the work and efforts our volunteers have put in to advocate for Child Rights. 

As a part of their annual festival, CRY put up a stall at the Institute of Home Economics. The stall was visited by 50 inquisitive students who interacted with the volunteers. The volunteers provided some insights into the purpose, motives and workings  of CRY and the current volunteering opportunities. They also shed some light on child rights and their importance. The volunteers team had also set up some games which garnered quite a bit of interest.

(an excerpt from thealternative.in ) In urban slums like NS Palya, anganwadis are often a pale imitation of what they were envisioned to be under the Integrated Child Development System (ICDS), mooted by the Indian government in 1976. Under ICDS, anganwadis were expected to function as one-stop crèche and nutrition centres for children from the age of zero to six, and for expectant mothers. Every anganwadi is run by an anganwadi teacher and a helper. They are expected to give children basic pre-school education, provide them one nutritious meal in a day, and ensure the children receive vaccines and mineral supplements on schedule. Volunteers in Delhi celebrated Volunteer Day on 11 th  January 2015. The theme of the event was ‘Masti Ki Paathshaala’. The venue was decorated as a government school classroom to give a feel of the schools where volunteers spend most of the time volunteering! The volunteers were greeted at the entrance with a CHAMPIONS t-shirt and lollipops. WE started the event by an interactive introduction activity ‘Down the Memory Lane’ where volunteers spoke about their experiences with CRY over the years. Apart from CRY CEO Puja’s message we also had a presentation by Soha Moitra, Functional Director for Volunteer Action.  We had a special recognition awards to most active and long service volunteers with CRY. Other active volunteers were given certificates. A set of volunteers performed songs on the event and CRY employees also presented a dance performance for the volunteers. A Walk for Health, A Walk for Child Rights   Walking for a cause can not only be good for your health, but for child rights too! On  9th of November , Delhi witnessed more than 30 CRY Volunteers walking five kilometres for Child Rights. The event in association with the Max Bupa “Walk for Health” initiative helped volunteers create awareness on the importance of taking ‘steps’ towards ensuring lasting change for children.

To celebrate Children’s Day weekend in Delhi saw young and old come together at Colorothon to paint, draw and help CRY create happy, healthy childhoods. Colorothon was held at Central Park, Connaught Place on 16th November 2014, the event came alive with different ‘colours’ of enthusiasm, imagination and solidarity and ended with the participants both professionals and amateurs contributing their paintings towards an auction, proceeds of which will be donated to CRY. CRY had more than 70 of its volunteers participate in the event to help everyone with colours, papers etc along with team COLOROTHON.

Colorothon is an initiative that will try to rekindle the lost joy of drawing and painting in you. It is a platform, deftly created for people to pick up a pencil/colors/paint brush/chalk and express themselves - drawing their imagination along with thousands of fellow art lovers, curators, first time expressionists, artists and art admirers and paint to their heart's elation!
