HAVE YOURSELF A MERRY LITTLE CHRISTMAS...BUT ONLINE

What is Christmas for you? A time of the year which is full of joy and happiness and one celebrates with their loved ones, singing Christmas carols, eating mouth-watering delicacies along with the fun of decorating Christmas tree and our houses, getting together, exchanging gifts and so on. Children especially wait for Santa Clause to arrive with goodies. This year, the pandemic seems to have put all festivities to a halt, but we should not lose hope. Instead, it is time to spend some memorable moments together in the festival of happiness.

Where there is a will, there is a way. At CRY, we made this our motive and tried to find ways through which we could impart this true message of Christmas to our cheerful children and have lots of fun and learning!

On December 20th, Christmas celebrations commenced early for children at cry with a virtual revamp. Despite the rising pressure put by the prevailing pandemic on children’s level of social interaction with their peers and others, their spirits did not fall short, and it was visible in the long smiles across their faces when they participated in another exhilarating event of ‘Masti ki Pathshala’ which held via Zoom call to commemorate the auspicious occasion of Christmas.

It all began with interaction with children on the chatbox. Their experience was enhanced by volunteers dressed in Christmas attire. Firstly, a Christmas carol ‘Jingle bells…’ was sung, which was followed by a game of identifying Christmas ornaments like Bells and candy canes. They were told the importance of different ornaments and the significance of Christmas.

The children also got the opportunity to explore their artistic talents by following a step-by-step guide to making Christmas greeting cards, which set the tone for the festival. Many alternatives were given to them if they did not have the required craft material like a Christmas tree could be drawn on the front page of white paper folded into the shape of a card using a green crayon if they did not have a green paper to cut the tree directly from it. They dexterously worked on their cards and eagerly wanted to show them to everyone at their homes.

Continuing with the festivities, our volunteers presented entertaining dance performances to them and sang carols including “We wish you a merry Christmas…” with the addition of a Christmas delicacy, Figgy Pudding, and “When you are happy and you know it….”. Finally, the children displayed their greeting cards, which were beautifully decorated and ready to be handed over to their loved ones.

An unforgettable experience was brought to them at the comfort of their homes, which they enjoyed to the fullest. Even though they couldn't enjoy the festival in the usual manner, but this event surely made their Christmas much merrier.
