“Every child is an artist, the problem is how to remain an artist once he grows “- Pablo Picasso

This beautiful line by Pablo Picasso, one of the greatest artists in history, says it all. The use of imagination in creation of aesthetic objects, environment or experiences that can be shared with others is art and the when this art is used in the form of expressing our inner self to the outer world and using a creative process to improve one’s physical , mental and emotional well-being, it turns into an Art therapy .

This is certainly what happened across 10 days of amazing Art therapy sessions which were organized by CRY, while collaborating with ongoing powerful mission of The Red Pencil, a non – profitable organization that teaches how art can be used to wash the dust of daily life off our souls.

The event was a 10 day journey where our children were made to find their inner self and express it through paintings. The two art therapists, Sara and Disha, who were so captivating while supporting our children, interacted with them throughout and helped them express to find the best version of themselves was a great achievement. They organized various activities such as visual arts, crafts and paintings, which not only motivated the children to participate with zeal and happiness but also made them feel like they belonged somewhere and seeing each other’s art they felt connected. The children were very excited and were eagerly waiting to bloom with the colors and start reflecting their inner artist on the large drawing sheets.

The creative driving process was in a full swing where our volunteers came up with an idea of self- healing through self –expression where our children were told to paint a place on the sheets where they felt most safe and secured in. The children all came up with great exciting thoughts – their own house, their rooms, their nearby park and many more.
This activity released their buried feelings, where their anxieties were expressed and the event acted like a therapeutic remedy, helping to let go off of the negative feelings that they had been holding onto. It helped them discover new insights about themselves.

And that wasn’t even the end. CRY found another great way of inculcating positivity in the little tiny tots by making them leave their hand impressions on the wall, which not only left a signature of their artistic journey on the wall but also left a remarkable impression in their minds. With the help of art it was possible to bridge the gap between their outer self and their inner happiness.

In these 10 days, our children felt like they were on a voyage with their own self where words, alphabets, books, reading, nothing was needed, but a deeper understanding of their inner self to express themselves and find their individuality.  This activity helped in boosting the self confidence in children and helping them face their own repressed fears.

This artistic journey came to an end on 2nd June while leaving many reminiscing memories to keep alive and enjoy and was a great event filled with art and colors, leaving a great smile on the faces of the children.
