Good Health is Real Wealth- A Health Camp Organized at Gurgaon PAG
Living
healthy is the ideal way of life, but in today’s fast moving world, our bodies are
left unchecked and sometimes untreated. The importance of the saying, ‘A
healthy mind resides in a healthy body,’ is starting to be recognised by the
people. To make sure that this proverb resonates with the actions at CRY, we conducted a Health Camp to create
awareness among the children, along with their parents, and educate them on how
a healthy body impacts our lives.
The
event was conducted on 8th June in the Gurgaon PAG, where the CRY
volunteers, along with the doctors of The American Medical Student Association
(AMSA) kicked -off the fun-filled, yet educational day. The event started around
10:00 A.M. and the doctors quickly got on with the check-ups of children and
their parents, teaching them the basics of hygiene and how it can easily be
achieved. The turnaround was huge; approximately 95 children and parents turned
up in few hours that the camp was held.
The
credit goes to the hardwork and perseverance of our volunteers who are
passionate to organise such an event. Our preparations were also supplemented
by our counsellor, Mr. Gaje Singh Kablana who helped us in not one, but many
ways- from lending a hand in making all arrangements to space planning and
helping in setting up all the required the infrastructure, it was because of
such unparalleled enthusiasm that we were all set to go.
After
the event got underway, fun activities such as the game in which the children
were supposed to quickly transfer Styrofoam with the help of straw from one
glass to another without touching it was organized so as to keep the children
entertained. We were amazed to see a child as young as three, be a part of this
activity. And the fun did not end there. With a generous collaboration with
Freestand, the children were given healthy juices and eatables to top off the
event.
The
event finally came to close, and our volunteers, impressed by the success of
the activity, couldn’t contain their joy. Sonali Jain, a doctor with the AMSA
rightly pointed out, “Despite the hardships faced by these children, one thing
remains constant- the brightness in their eyes when they smile. Unfortunately,
taking care of their health takes a backseat in their lives but I am hopeful
that some advise from this camp will stick with them and they will be able to
avoid getting sick, since prevention is better than cure.”
Knowledge
about common diseases and their prevention, although is general knowledge, often
gets ignored which leads to a lot of complications in the future. If the
children are informed about hygiene and how they can develop little habits in
their daily lives for cleanliness, they will be able to have a brighter and
healthy future. After all, the future of any country depends on its children.
